Five essentials that you should always have in your closet

Do you ever feel as though you have so many clothes, but nothing to wear? Sometimes it’s a case of having too much choice but nothing that really works with the other things in your closet. The best way to spruce up your wardrobe is to go right back to basics and make sure you have these versatile essentials.

LBD

What is life without a little black dress? This is the key staple item for any woman, as a good LBD can be dressed up or down, worn to a job interview, a nightclub, or a funeral! Black is such a neutral color, but that doesn’t mean that your outfit has to be boring. Add some colorful accessories to make a statement or a tailored blazer for a stylish touch of sophistication. A little black dress never goes out of style!

Jeans

The right pair of jeans can make all the difference. Teamed with a slouchy tee and sneakers, it is the perfect casual look for a mooch around the mall on a Saturday morning, but add a good pair of heels, a statement necklace, and a bold red lip, and you can go out for a nice meal too, without changing your jeans! It can be hard to find the perfect pair of jeans for you, so be sure to try different cuts and colors, from stonewashed mom-jeans to high-waisted and distressed, you’ll know when they’re right for you.

Comfortable heels

Heels make you feel so much more confident, whether in the office or on a date, but the key is that they must be comfortable. A pair of skyscraper heels might look great, but if they make your feet bleed they’re not the best. A pair of nude heels with a stiletto heel will look gorgeous with a dress on a night out, or can really help add some attitude to a pair of jeans.

Plain white tee

Few things are quite as versatile as a plain white t shirt. If you’re going heavy on the pattern or color with pants or a skirt, a white t shirt will stop your outfit from being too noisy. You can wear it under a funky blazer, or layered under an open shirt, with jeans or yoga pants, or even a floaty skirt. The possibilities are endless – just be sure only ever to wash it with other white items, because a slightly grey (or even an accidentally dyed bright pink!) t shirt doesn’t have the same effect!

Silk scarf

This might seem a little random compared to the others, but there is a lot you can do with a silk scarf. Of course, you can tie it in your hair for a vintage look, or around your neck as a quirky choker to add a touch of glam. If it’s long enough, it could even double as a belt, and if you experiment with different ways to tie it, you can create completely different styles and looks!

If you can only have five items in your wardrobe, these are five strong contenders! Versatile pieces that won’t be going out of style any time soon and can work for every shape and size of body. These are the items that are worth investing in, rather than buying cheap so that they last you well.
