The 90s were a pretty glorious time for fashion, music, games, and movies. In fact, if you take a look at the trends that we’re seeing now, it is fair to say that the 90s are making a major comeback. For those of us who find ourselves feeling a bit nostalgic for the days of pop music from the likes of the Spice Girls, and the fashion made popular by the film Clueless, then you are in luck, because all of these, are back, and more popular than ever. Here are four signs that the 90s are back, and here to stay.
The 90s were characterized by bands like the Spice Girls, the Backstreet Boys, and pop idol Britney Spears. Instead of fading into the background, the way a lot of 90s acts did, these three have continued to tour, and even to produce new music for their fans to obsess over. If you were one of the lucky few, who managed to snag tickets to the Spice Girls latest tour in the United Kingdom, or one of their upcoming shows in the United States, then you are in for a nostalgic treat. They have brought the magic that made them popular in the 90s into the present day. The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears can still be seen regularly touring the world as well, and they always make sure to include their 90s hits for you to sing-along to.
Do you remember when it was popular to wear a simple, silky slip dress with a denim jacket, and some clunky Doc Martens? If you take a look at some of the fashions hitting the runway, and what celebrities are wearing, you will see that these are once more in-fashion. Slip dresses can often be seen on the likes of Bella and Gigi Hadid, along with some chunky white running shoes, just like Spice Girl Geri Halliwell used to wear. Simple black chokers, even the lace ones with a pendant are also back. If you want to get back into 90s fashion, then dig deep into your closet, grab your old Doc Martens, add a choker and some dark matte lipstick, and you are ready for a night out on the town.
Do you remember that popular game which featured everyone’s favorite yellow-colored pocket monster by the name of Pikachu? Of course you do! Pokémon, and all of the versions of it, defined the gaming experience throughout the 90s. Everyone wanted to ‘catch them all.’ It seemed like the Pokémon craze had died down, until Niantic Inc. decided to release what is now called Pokémon Go, which thrilled the world. Now, Pokémon can be played from an app on your phone, with other people around you, which has worked to create an interactive gaming experience unlike any other. This reboot of the 90s classic continues to be popular, and people can often be seen trying to catch Pokémon around their homes.
The 90s may have ebded almost 20 years ago, but all that means is that the film industry is ready to start remaking some of the classics. If you missed the shenanigans of Cher Horowitz and her friends in Clueless, don’t worry she’s going to make a come back. We’re still not totally sure about who will be playing this iconic role, but we are definitely ready to see her back on the big screen.
It’s official, the 90s are back, and they are here to stay.
