While wearing makeup can make people feel more confident, a bad makeup day can bring people down. There are struggles that come with makeup that we can’t solve – like mascara that runs when we cry, or lipstick on our teeth. But one of the biggest problems we all face is that makeup fades throughout the day. The good news is that this is a problem we can solve.
Go for matte products
The dewy look is in trend at the moment, but if you need your makeup to stay on for longer than a few hours, ditch this style. Matte makeup is made to sink into the skin and stay there, so it is created by companies to last longer. Most matte foundations set themselves in place to achieve the matte look. This means that it is formulated to go onto the skin and dry in a few minutes – unlike dewy foundations that sit on the skin and get rubbed off during the day. Matte foundations also tend to be thicker in texture, which means they are harder to remove. This is great for the longevity of the foundation, but makes it slightly hard to wash off at the end of the day. Matte lipsticks operate in the same way. These lipsticks tend to go onto the lips like a liquid and then dry in place, providing hours of coverage that a lip gloss just can’t. So matte makeup is your best friend if you need a face of makeup that lasts.
There are two methods of setting makeup, but for makeup to really last these methods can be combined. The face makeup, like the concealer and foundation, must be set if you want your makeup to stay all day. The first way to set them is to use a powder. Some people use powder foundation over their liquid foundation, but for a less cakey effect, use translucent powder. Then, put the other face products over this powder like blush, bronzer, highlight, and contour. Once the full face of makeup is done, the second setting method can be used. A setting spray is made to dry over makeup and seal it, so this is a surefire way to really keep a face of makeup on for hours on end. Just spray the setting spray over your finished makeup and you’re good to go.
Don’t touch your face
This seems logical, but many people tend to touch their face throughout the day without even realizing it. This tip requires no extra effort or new products, it’s simply just to keep your hands off of your face. This means no picking, scratching, or rubbing. By touching your face, you are not only disturbing the makeup, but putting bacteria from your environment on your face as well. This prompts your skin to produce oils that will also disturb the makeup. The nose is the first place to lose makeup, so take extra care around it. But it’s not only about your hands touching your face, it’s also about your hair touching your face. This is because the oils from your hair will rub the makeup off when your hair rests on or near your face. No more bangs and no more face touching will make a huge difference in how long your makeup lasts.
